As we leave the shipyards at Puget Sound behind, I share this bit of history about scrap metal drives in Seattle in 1942. They were a big deal. And a lot of the scrap metal collected was placed into the hands of welders like Jack, to repair the ships. Also, the scrap was used to build and repair the B-17 Flying Fortress, which was Jack's home for more than 35 missions.

This was in an envelope postmarked 12/3/1943.
At the top Jack wrote "Please sent this stuff I forgot all about it till this morning."
